“Very little happens but its honesty and quietly ironic observation lend the film a timeless, universal appeal.”~BFI

Aroview: Scripted by a young Billy Wilder, this pivotal silent film harnessed the nascent talents of many other German film-makers that would come to make their mark in Hollywood.

A landmark hybrid of drama and documentary that follows the lives of a group of Berlin residents on a summer's day during the interwar period, it was pitched as a ‘film without actors’: the five principals drawn from their real-life day jobs as a taxi driver, music shop assistant, wine salesman, film extra and mannequin.
