Aroview: An aptly feel-good documentary account of the unlikely pop hit that boldly mashed up "Kapa Haka" song tradition and Te Reo Maori lyrics with funky hip-hop and 80's technology to reach Number 1 on the NZ charts and outsell all-comers in 1984 before being enshrined as a cultural icon.
Centred around the song's brainchild, the late Dalvanius Prime, and a host of affable Patea Maori Club members, contemporary creatives like Taika Waititi and Stan Walker cite its huge influence and contribute to the warm nostalgic glow.

4 stars (Very Good) I wasn't expecting to like this as much as I did. Tells the story of the song, yes, but also gives you plenty more on Dalvanius, & Patea, & the whole cultural context in 1984. Also the locals they interview are amazing... ~Toby Dammit
