Duke of Burgundy, The
“Something uniquely sexy and strange, built on two tremendous central performances and a bone-deep understanding of cinema's magic and mechanism”~Robbie Collin, The Telegraph
Aroview: BORGEN star Sidse Babett Knudsen throws aside the responsibilities of leading the Danish nation to star in this slice of arty-kink from the director of BERBERIAN SOUND STUDIO.
Fashioned in the aesthetic of continental soft porn of the 1970's, Knudsen plays one of two lepidopterists locked in a series of ritual games of dominance and subservience. Like his buttoned-up protagonoists, the talented director exerts appropriate discipline, though determinedly withholds cathartic release.

3 stars (Good Enough) Serene at times - beautiful photography - excellent production values. ~Tubbs
4 stars (Very Good) The dirty raincoat-brigade need not apply because this is cinema of the mind rather than the flesh: weird, witty, stylish, and teasing (in both senses of the word). The leading ladies both nail their tricky roles. ~fairbrother
