Aroview: British cult TV writer Brian Clemens (THE AVENGERS) assumes directing duties on this spirited historical vampire romp he wrote for Hammer Studios, featuring popular blonde German heart-throb Horst Janson as the eponymous vampire slayer.

Adds a Robin Hood-esque flavour and "R-rated" sexuality to the Gothic proceedings, though it's rather tame compared to the subversive likes of WITCHFINDER GENERAL and the British horrors of Pete Walker.

4 stars (Very Good) Probably Hammer's most fun outing with loads of vampire lore, great performances by Janson and Caroline Munro, and some good swashbuckling. Excellent popcorn film. ~trauma_hound412
