Aroview: An ex-con becomes a de facto father figure to a teenage boy (Tye Sheridan of MUD) trying to escape a violent upbringing in this rural coming-of-age tale.
While ostensibly a return to roots for David Gordon Green (after directing a string of Hollywood comedies), his latest film lacks the strangeness and lyricism of his earlier works, settling for a fairly routine take on the Southern Gothic genre, albeit one authentic in its atmosphere and performances.
