Mademoiselle

aka: Summer Fires
France 1966, 103 minutes
Dir. Tony Richardson
In French with English subtitles
Rating: [M]
Genres: Foreign Cinema / Country & Folk

Topics: Mental Health.

Aroview: Divisive and disturbing portrait of a repressed school teacher who unleashes a plague of 'accidents' upon on the inhabitants of her rural village.

Rife with Freudian symbolism this won't be to everyone's taste, but Richardson's direction is inspired and Moreau gives one of her finest performances. Adapted by Marguerite Duras from a Jean Genet story.
