This Way of Life
Aroview: Evocative, moving Kiwi doco which treats the viewer to an intimate glimpse of a family who reject modernity and live wild with six kids and fifty horses in the windswept Ruahine Ranges.
Horse-whisperer Peter Karena is the Dad who instills in his kids time-honoured values such as freedom, love and respect for nature. However the lifestyle does not come without its hardships, represented chiefly in the troubled relationship he has with his step-father, and culminating in the family losing their house and horses in a long-simmering dispute. Despite their extremely challenged circumstances, they continue to live with an uncompromising sense of love and intimacy, giving the film a genuine and profound beauty.
