Under the Mountain

New Zealand 2009, 91 minutes
Dir. Jonathan King
Rating: [M] Supernatural themes
Genres: Science Fiction, Family / Invaders

Synopsis: Big screen treatment of the classic Maurice Gee young adult novel with teenage twins battling the dark forces beneath Auckland volcanoes.

Aroview: The special effects are right up to spec, and it's a step up for the director of BLACK SHEEP, but in souping up its source material for a teenage audience this slick adaptation proves too simplistic for knowing teens and too scary for their younger siblings. While the original tele series suffered from padding, this conversely skimps on the intriguing details of its ambitious concept.
