Genres: Drama

Topics: Period 1930s, Politics.

Aroview: Based on the acclaimed stageplay by C.P. Taylor, Viggo Mortensen sports a convincing English accent to portray a German academic who is reluctantly drawn into the Nazi party in the 1930s.

Attracting the interest of Hitler's regime with a novel that he'd written advocating the mercy-killing of the terminally ill, this promises to explore such troubling moral terrain, but instead the film plays out along conventional lines as he struggles with personal and professional obligations, and the ultimate fate of a long-time Jewish friend.

Filmed on location in Hungary, this follows THE READER, THE BOY IN THE STRIPED PYJAMAS and VALKYRIE as another German WWII story adapted in English.
