Stone of Destiny

Scotland 2008, 96 minutes
Dir. Charles Martin Smith
Rating: [PG]
Genres: Drama, Action/Adventure

Topics: Period 1950s.

Aroview: Crowd-pleasing heist movie following a group of young Glaswegian students as they attempt to steal the Stone of Scone, a beloved symbol of Scottish pride, from within the bowels of Westminster Abbey.

Despite the odd moment of contrivance, for the most part this is a sweet-natured - if a little insistent - piece of Scottish nationalism, complimented by gorgeous visuals and a rousing score. Invariably this will appeal most to those with emotional attachments, although casual viewers will enjoy the heist itself, which is successfully tense.
