Attended by an ill-fitting Triad subplot that dilutes the overall aesthetic potency of the rarely-seen Zen drumming rituals, this spiritual journey to self-realisation a la THE KARATE KID doesn't quite settle into a satisfying rhythm, but has moments of uncluttered visual poetry that are bound to snare some viewers.

3 stars (Good Enough) It plays like two films bundled together. The Zen segments are well worth watching and it gets another credit for keeping the violence to a minimum. ~Tubbs
