Ten 'til Noon

USA 2006, 84 minutes
Dir. Scott Storm
Genres: Suspense/Crime

Aroview: A surprisingly effective, if imitative revision of the now-derivative time fragmented crime caper, this employs a multitude of simultaneous flashbacks to unlock a series of interlinking characters and events at the pivotal time of ten ‘til noon.

Based largely on the showy wunderkind cinema of Tarantino, Ritchie and co., dir. Storm rolls out the usual cast of degenerates, brooding assassins, and sexy femme fatales, replete with standard quotas of violence, profanity and nudity. Though amateurish at first glance, the film’s ten-minute intervals that tangent from its opening scene – where a software engineer is accosted by two contract killers in his bedroom at 11.50am – lend a certain conceptual dexterity to the narrative’s unfurling. Against all odds, this manages to punch above its low-budget featherweight amidst a growing wasteland of post-PULP FICTION impersonators.
