Accosted by muggers in 1978, de Montalembert was blinded ironically by paint stripper in the ensuing scuffle. Dir. Tarn whirls a visual and aural poetry to evoke the artist’s brightest and darkest moments, but it’s de Montalembert’s affecting narration that speaks for itself.
