Aroview: An international cast grace this lengthy war drama, set in 1944 Paris as the retreating Germans prepared to burn the city to the ground on Hitler's orders before American soldiers arrive, prompting panic in the French Resistance. Suffers somewhat from English overdubbing and narrative complexity, but the photography is magnificent, skillfully blending newsreel footage, and the historical backdrop intrinsically fascinating.
