Dir. Dylan Kidd
Genres: Drama / Romance

Topics: Academia.

Aroview: Nervy and refined sophomore effort from RODGER DODGER dir. Dylan Kidd, here unbuttoning the thirty-something dilemmas of a university administrator (Linney) who falls in love with a college student (Grace) who happens to bear an uncanny resemblance to her deceased high-school sweetheart.

While the film toys with quasi-mystical notions of reincarnation, the premise is profitably used to examine the process of falling in love and how the ghosts of lovers-past inform romantic choices. Several sideplots refract these themes, with Linney's attitudes to her ex-husband (Byrne), best pal (Harden) and estranged brother (Rudd), all subtly unbalanced by the turn of events. Propelled by a triumphant central performance and Kidd's talky scripting, this is thoughtful and entertaining viewing.
