Take the Lead

Aroview: A thinnish retelling of the true story of Pierre Dulaine (played here by Antonio Banderas) who is credited with provoking the current enthusiasm for old-style ballroom dancing among the New York education system.

In this incarnation, a suave Banderas takes up the challenge of bringing the joys of dancing to a group of troubled teens in the hope of them winning a championship dance-off with a more affluent school and rescuing them from a life on the streets in the process. Complete with an utterly predictable story-arc and only lightly sketching the necessary background context, this has few merits beyond the admittedly sparky salsa moves.
