Young Thugs - Nostalgia

Aroview: Apparently dir. Miike's (AUDITION) favourite of his own films, this semi-autobiographical rites of passage tale is a prequel to YOUNG THUGS - INNOCENT BLOOD and is likewise atypically low on violence, but still high on laterality.

Set around a group of friends growing up in a tough part of Osaka in the late 1960s, Miike portrays many facets of the characters' lives from domestic violence, teenage struggles, incipient romance, street violence and red-light activities, all shaken together with affection and truthfulness.
