Charisma
Aroview: An eerie 'ecological horror' from the mind of dir. Kiyoshi Kurosawa, here following the path of a police detective (Yakusho Koji) who has been suspended from active service, but becomes drawn into an off-duty investigation.
Searching for some peace and quiet in a remote, uncanny forest, he discovers a tussle going on among locals over a forbidding (possibly toxic) tree found deep in the woods. Brimming with images as stylised as Argento, this perhaps spends too long turning the soil of various symbolic layers. Still, it's rewardingly spooky viewing.
