Joh's Jury

Australia 1993, 98 minutes
Dir. Ken Cameron
Rating: [M]
Genres: Television, Drama, Suspense/Crime / Courtroom

Aroview: Intensively researched teledrama about the sensational trial of Queensland state premier Joh Bjelke-Petersen (Connolly) for perjury in 1991.

Bjelke-Petersen (who happened to be born in Dannevirke, NZ) was known for his flamboyant style, right wing politics and suspected corruption, which other trials eventually implicated him in. The plot here focuses on juryroom conflicts and dynamics and is based on interviews with 8 of the 12 involved. Apparantly there was a threat of federal legal action over this dramatisation, and it was unavailable for many years.
