Meanwhile, in the stone bowels of the city, a scientist (Rampling) investigates a strangely immaculate blue-haired woman...

Conjuring a wealth of stark CGI backdrops and odd-looking characters this achieves a requisite unworldliness, though does feel slightly clumsy in its physical effect. However, as ambitious European sci-fi, this has metaphysical and technological trimmings to savour.
