Aroview: An intriguing 'black' Western set in the aftermath of the American Civil War, with a group of freed slaves setting out across the dangerous wilderness of the West where they are beset by various perils.
As the wagon master, Poitier gives a memorable turn, while Belafonte plays a fast-talking, rogue-ish 'preacher' to perfection. If in the end this can't quite find the spark of greatness, it's still a rollicking revisionist one-off.

		- 2 stars (Good Try) Not great but a watchable screenplay but the casting means it has definite curiosity value. ~Anon
