Dir. Arthur Hiller
Rating: [M]
Genres: Drama / Courtroom

Aroview: Another intense, performance based entrant in the American Film Theatre series, with Schell playing a wealthy Jewish industrialist who survived the Nazi death camps, who is put on trial for war crimes.

Although this was controversial at the time (actor-playwright Robert Shaw had his name removed from the credits), it emerges now as a cerebral and fascinating depiction of fractured identity, with a still puzzling central mystery. In some ways, its absurdist view of the Holocaust is still strikingly up to date.
