Aro Recommended Blerta - The Return Trip...

aka: Blerta Revisited
New Zealand 2001, 81 minutes
Dir. Geoff Murphy
Genres: Documentary / Performing Arts

Topics: Hippies & Psychedelia.

Aroview: Less a nostalgia 'trip' than a brilliant compendium of manic moments from New Zealand's 1970's travelling roadshow of anarchic performance - Bruno Lawrence Electric Revelation and Travelling Apparition, or "Blerta".

Blessed with a large array of genuine talents such as Geoff Murphy, Fane Flaws, Ian Watkin, Corbin Simpson and many others, they combined inventive musicianship with surrealistic stage-flair, adding a quirky Kiwi touch to the hippie antics of the period, and eventually scoring their own TV series.

Oldies will find this well worth revisiting, while curious newcomers will be rewarded with a Monty Python-esque experience all our own!
