Aroview: Dramatic critique of Britain's housing problems follows the progress of a young couple in London as they slip down the social and class ladder into poverty, homelessness and welfare intervention.

Dir. Loach's debut remarkably combines this fictionalised scenario with documentary material in a way both lyrical and didactic, though perhaps its very simplicity now seems slender when compared to the films it has influenced. Notable also for the great political impact it had when first screened, leading to a number of changes in governement policy.
