Grey Zone, The

USA 2000, 108 minutes
Dir. Tim Blake Nelson
Rating: [R16]
Genres: Drama / War

Topics: Period 1940s, Stageplay.

Aroview: Earnest examination of one of the 'greyest' moral zones of the Holocaust - the role of the Jewish Sonderkommandos in concentration camps, who assisted the Nazis in exchange for a few more months of life.

Based on the dir.'s own stageplay this dramatises the leadup to the only known rebellion in the Auschwitz camp, with a surplus of graphic violence and cruelty. Interesting, and in its own way uncompromising, though overall shortcomings in the performances (and accents) are unfortunate.
