UK 1964, 70 minutes

Rating: [M]
Genres: Documentary / History, War

Topics: Period - 1700s.

Aroview: A groundbreaking documentary depicting the famous battle in 1746 between the English loyalists and Scottish Jacobites.

Re-enacting this gruesome battle and its aftermath with a gritty 'journalistic' style, dir. Watkins conveys the general course of events and all the cruel details with equal power. Providing mock interviews with participants also brings the advantages of historical hindsight to bear. This TV-film went on to influence a generation of British filmmakers, most notably Ken Loach.
