Nil by Mouth
Aroview: Brutality, poverty and drug abuse inhabit the daily reality of a South London family in actor Gary Oldman's writer/directing debut - a fierce, uncompromising, and resoundingly bleak drama, alarmingly drawn from the film-makers own experience. Steeped in the dramatic tradition of British working-class realism, angry Oldman delivers with a heavy hand, but solid writing and acting ensure bouts of undeniable power. Entertainment, however, it is not.
