“A modern classic and one of the greatest American independent films ever made.”~The New Yorker
Aroview: Turn-of-the-century tale of the Gullah, descendants of slaves living on islands near South Carolina who maintained their West African heritage. Through a mingling of old memories and ancestral myths, this unfolds as an evocative tone poem, narrated by a child not yet born.
1 star (Turkey) For African-American history this movie is unhelpful. There's no plot, no character development and no way to determine relationships. The dialect is hard to follow without subtitles. With a lot of ads up-front, this DVD is a challenge!~Sandy
