Life Before Her Eyes, The
Aroview: The seemingly idyllic life of a suburban mother of two (Thurman) is upended by a traumatic event from her past, in this ominous melodrama from the dir. of HOUSE OF SAND AND FOG.
A dread-inducing, less-than-subtle take on the past sneaking up from behind, the film’s thickly laid on imagery and incessant air of foreboding make for a rather overstated affair, though like Atom Egoyan’s jigsaw narratives, the puzzle pieces are so tantalizingly left askew, that when put finally put back together, deliver a satisfying emotional payoff.
