Aroview: Rock solid policier stars Daniel Auteuil as a drunken, burnt-out cop whose shot at redemption comes in the form of a woman requiring protection from the soon-to-be-released murderer of her parents.

Overfamiliarity aside, this unfussy procedural forgoes plot gimmicks and cheap shocks for serious character study and a touch of grim realism, courtesy of former police officer-turned-director Marchal’s time in the force. Though not skimping on the cat-and-mouse thrills of the serial killer genre, will reward those with a yearning for old-school crime drama.
