Gospel Hill

USA 2008, 104 minutes
Dir. Giancarlo Esposito
Genres: Drama

Topics: Indigenous & Minority Cultures.

Aroview: Well-meaning, but congested melodrama set in the Deep South where a corporation selling out the underclass to white developers reignites racial divisions of the past.

Although carrying noteworthy performances and serious issues across the board, the film’s strengths have managed to be subsumed by a largely excessive script. Throw in the unsolved murder of a Civil Rights activist, interracial affairs, high-level corruption, and general bitterness and disquiet amongst the townsfolk, and the film has ended before delivering on its big concerns...
