Dir. Ben Garant

Aroview: Yet another in a recent wave of "sports spoof" comedies, this one, believe it or not, set in the Asian-infused world of extreme ping-pong, better known here in the Occident as "table tennis".

Dan Fogler (a kind of Jack Black-lite) plays a washed-up paddle-thwacker who is recruited by the FBI to help ensure a crime-lord with a love of the sport. Trouble is, he's out of shape (to say the least) and has to undergo some serious "Karate Kid" style mentorship in order to fulfill his mission. Cleverly CGI-ed ping-pong balls enable a string of visual gags and help stem the feeling of 'sports-slob' deja vu, while Fogler's character's love of 'Def Leppard' provides a good excuse to pour some sugary heavy-metal all over the soundtrack.
