Suburban Mayhem

Australia 2006, 95 minutes
Dir. Paul Goldman
Genres: Drama / Independent, Youth

Aroview: NZ's Emily Barclay crashes this trailer-trash satire of murderous alpha-males and vindictive females set in the god-awful 'burbs of backwater Australia.

Dictating proceedings, Barclay delivers on her promising IN MY FATHER’S DEN debut with a foxy and assertive turn as the self-preserving Kat, a desperate single mother whose talents for seduction and manipulation breathe life into the film’s otherwise tacky soap opera. Misses the mark as a successor to the discomforting milieu of CHOPPER and THE BOYS, although its light satirical and occasionally humourous musings do offer a darkly comical view of uncouth, beer-swigging Ocker neanderthals.
