Jonestown: The Life and Death of Peoples Temple

USA 2006, 90 minutes
Dir. Stanley Nelson Jr
Genres: Documentary / Sociology

Topics: Religion.

Aroview: The enigma of cultist Jim Jones is investigated in chilling detail as this documentary outlays the infamous ‘Peoples Temple’ cult and its disciples’ mass suicide in 1978, where over 900 of its population died.

With appropriate procedure, the grave material is handled with care and attention by dir. Nelson, whose investigation into the disturbing remnants of the Jonestown massacre – including thoughtful interviews with former temple members and even survivors of the obliterated cult – is thorough but never distasteful or over-editorialised.
