Vivre Sa Vie

aka: My Life to Live
USA 1962, 85 minutes
Dir. Jean-Luc Godard
In French with English subtitles
Rating: [R16]
Genres: Foreign Cinema, Drama

Feat. Anna Karina

Aroview: While filtered through dir. Godard's preoccupations with genre, this series of twelve vignettes about a Parisian woman's marriage breakup and gradual descent into prostitution, is unusually delicate, even tender.

With the director's wife and muse, Anna Karina, in the lead role, this is also remarkably personal, and has been read as containing portents of the couple's real-life separation. All up, one of Godard's most watchable and affecting explorations of cinematic form.
