Ladies in Lavender
Aroview: During the pre-WW2 period, a handsome Polish stranger (Bruhl) is washed up on a beach in Cornwall and taken into care by two aging spinster sisters (Dench and Smith).
As they nurse him back to health, each in turn develops a sparking infatuation, while the man's own story is only slowly revealed. Although this hardly springs any inventive touches, actor-turned-director Charles Dance has the wisdom to let his two Oscar-winning actresses carry the film with their own graceful presences.
