Aro Recommended Spectres of the Spectrum

USA 2003, 91 minutes
Dir. Craig Baldwin
Rating: [Exempt]
Genres: Cult, Science Fiction

Topics: Experimental.

Aroview: An experimental 'ficto-history' of the age of electricity onwards, which uses 'found' footage - kinescopes, early educational films, sci-fi B-movies, advertising - to weave a preposterous tale of the "invisible wars" in which inventors, businessmen, the military and politicians have conspired, and a resistance has emerged.

Set around a telepath and her father, who are under siege in the Nevada desert from the 'New Electromagnetic Order', this disorientingly weaves in socio-political commentary and distorted, though extraordinary imagery. Not easy to follow, but worth repeat viewings - it's an original piece of agitprop cinema in the best tradition of Dada.
